I recently stayed at you le yuen, beautifully preserved heritage property that truly captures the essence of history and elegance. From the moment I arrived, I was struck by the grandeur of the architecture and the attention to detail in maintaining the hotel’s original charm. The staff was warm and welcoming, providing excellent service throughout my stay. The check-in process was smooth, and they were quick to offer recommendations for nearby attractions and restaurants. The heritage ambiance is truly unique—staying here felt like stepping back in time, in the best possible way. My room was beautifully furnished with antique decor, which added to the hotel’s historic charm. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and the high ceilings and vintage details gave the space a luxurious feel. However, due to the nature of older buildings, there was a slight issue with noise isolation. I could hear some outside noise and the occasional sound from adjacent rooms, but it didn’t significantly detract from my overall experience. If you’re a light sleeper, I would recommend requesting a room away from the street or bringing earplugs just in case. The hotel’s location is perfect for exploring many nearby landmarks, and it was a real treat to be so close to such vibrant cultural sights. Despite the minor noise issue, I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for an authentic, historical experience. The charm and character of the property, combined with the attentive service, made my stay unforgettable. I would definitely return on my next visit!

If you want to stay in a small cozy authentic hotel in the heart of the city, then this hotel is for you. We stayed for 10 days in a duplex room. It has a small shower with a sink outside, but it was important for us to have two isolated rooms, since my husband was supposed to participate in a conference on Zoom, and I was relaxing in the second room at that time. However, if a large bathroom is more important to you, then the hotel has such room with a large Victorian bathroom. All the hotel staff were very hospitable. My husband needed a desk for work, so we asked if it was at all possible to bring in a desk in our room, and on the same day the desk appeared in the room. Also a nice bonus was a free transfer from and to the airport. The hotel provided a supple of drinking water which you could use as much as you needed free of charge. And one more thing: do not miss the opportunity to use the services of a tour guide Lau. Lau is a very good person with a big heart, and thanks to him we were able to see a lot in Penang.

The house itself is a great experience : a two courtyard house with a fluid ground floor and the upstairs bedrooms . I stayed in the bedroom that opens to the two courtyards, spacious room with bathroom and a balcony , and recommend it . Great location, in the center of George Town and a walkable distance of the main interest points. Although central, it sits in a quieter part of Love Lane. Breakfast has two options : local or western (both very good) and Jane was very welcoming to accommodate any requests. Also, Jane proposed a half-day tour with Mr. Lau (great storyteller that follows one’s rhythm of the visit and accommodates timings and changes in the schedule to better fit our interests) for sightseeing and street food tasting and prepared water and a towel to take to the beach.

The hosts, Jane and Peg, and the Filipino gentleman were very hospitable and helpful with directions and other information. The place is very clean, quiet and small. It has only four rooms or suites. I stayed in the Skywell Suite which has a balcony that overlooks the shop. I enjoyed sitting on the balcony In the late morning, relaxing with a book. I loved the exposed red bricks all throughout the shop and room. In fact, that was one of the reasons I chose to stay there. I soaked in the white bath tub a few times instead of taking a shower. The white Location! Location! Location! You will find a multitude of restaurants, coffee-shops, bars, convenient stores and bakeries just up the road and also on Chulia Street, a main artery in the area, a few hundred metres away.

Our second stay after a decade since we last visited, You Le Yuen is a perfect stay for us. Located in Love Lane but far from the noise and hustle and bustle of Penang city. We had the same Courtyard Duplex Suite which balcony overlook the inner courtyard and we love everything like how we expected from our first visit. We love the rustic vibe and decor and the e room has all the basic necessities for our 2 night stay and sleep was perfect. Breakfast served in the morning came either local or western cuisine which serving was perfect and delicious. Thank you Ryan and Janet for taking care of us while we were there and we recommend staying here on your visit to Penang.
